However, we believe individual donors can do the most good by giving to the Top Charities Fund and our top charities, all of which are extremely cost-effective organizations serving the world’s most vulnerable people. We’ve made some grants to address COVID-related problems. We have yet to find many similarly cost-effective opportunities to address COVID-19. A few dollars can cure a child of parasitic worms. A $3,000-$5,000 donation can save the life of a child who would otherwise die from malaria. These problems remain, and we guess they’ll only be made worse by COVID-19. The onset of COVID-19 doesn’t alleviate the challenges that came before: the hundreds of thousands who die every year from malaria, the children sick from parasitic worms, or the millions of people living in extreme poverty. These grants support communities from helping to build resilience in the Dominican Republic to fighting hunger in the Philippines.We continue to recommend that donors give to GiveWell’s top charities, and especially to our Top Charities Fund, which we allocate quarterly to the highest priority needs we see among our top charities. The Starbucks Foundation reaches goal of supporting 250,000 women and girls in coffee, tea & cocoa growing communities The Starbucks Foundation Origin Grants make a difference in the lives of women, their families and their communities through programs that promote women’s leadership, create economic opportunities and expand access to clean water and sanitation (WASH) for women and girls across Africa, Asia and Latin America. On International Women’s Day 2022, The Starbucks Foundation set a goal to positively impact 1 million women and girls in coffee-, tea- and cocoa-growing communities by 2030. The goal: Allocate funds to provide frontliners with face masks, COVID-19 test kits and more ventilators to be used by patients in serious conditions. Since 2005, The Starbucks Foundation has invested more than $25 million in programs that strengthen coffee and tea-growing communities. Starbucks has a long history of working with coffee and tea origin communities to address their most critical needs such as access to water, sanitation, health and education. We strive to create a positive impact for people – from the first ten feet to the last ten feet of coffee – by supporting nonprofit organizations in partnership with Starbucks partners, licensee partners and others with a shared commitment and belief in stronger, more equitable communities.
